Neil Borne grew up in a small town just south of New Orleans, and did not learn about sailboats until after college. After working briefly with North Sails in the 1990s, Neil pursued a career in his field of study, Business Administration. Twenty years later, he decided a sailor's life was indeed for him. He returned to North Sails in New Orleans in 2010 and has served as a trusted Sail Consultant ever since.
Neil's dedication to the sport of sailing is reflected in his daily life, through gestures such as holding an open invitation on his J/30, Toy Box, for new crew members to come aboard and learn the ropes. In 1992, Neil was booked for sailing 50 weekends out of the year, "I do my part in attracting new people to the sport. Providing a comfortable learning environment is the key - the more people learn, the more they want to come back". A number of Neil's students now have their own boats and are sailing actively within the community.
During his free weekends, Neil enjoys coaching his son's sports teams, playing golf, and going hunting.
