MNB-2 All-Purpose Mainsail $14,799
3DL 850 Carbon/Technora 19600 DPI
Updated for 2012, we have made small changes to the design, luff curve and batten configuration. The MNB-2 design has been developed from the original mainsail design to
match the new mast tune and max forestay tension. It is more powerful
in the head for light conditions and slightly above the minimum class
weight but still an All-Purpose design. It is built with 19600 dpi for
better shapeholding through the racing seasons due to the Class sail
yearly restrictions.
MNi-2 Mainsail $16,387
3Di™ 780i Carbon/Dyneema 19600 DPI CSD Layout
New 2012 layout with small changes to design, luff curve and batten configuration.
With 3Di™ technology, we are able to give the sail more modulus for the
same weight and more control of headstay sag because the mainsheet load
is transferred directly to the boat through the carbon leech yarns.
Early trials show this sail to have more flexibility and shapeholding
through the wind ranges due to the more efficient 3Di structure. |

LMB-2 Light/Medium Headsail $8,676
3DL 850 Carbon/Technora 16800 DPI
Thin Films
For 2012, we have made small changes to the design and geometry of this Carbon/Technora sail which was developed from our very successful LM mold. We increased the DPI and reduced overall weight of the sail to improve the wind range and durability. The new LMB-2 design is slightly more powerful and has a rounder entry to compensate for the higher forestay tension used now in the Class. We have maximized the sail area by increasing the foot and leech length to maximum Class dimension and allow the clew to be as low as possible. This allows the sail to be sheeted at closer angle for better pointing.
DESIGNED WIND RANGE:
0 - 13 knots true wind speed |
|
LMi-2 Light/Medium Headsail $10,452
3Di™ 780i Carbon/Dyneema 16800 DPI CSD Layout
New 2012 Layout with small changes to design and geometry. By using North 3Di™ technology, the LMi-2 has been engineered to save overall weight and still have a higher modulus than the LMB-2. It is a powerful sail with a wider groove for easier steering in under-powered conditions but still easy to de-power in the upper range by adjusting the "up & down" and sheet tension. We have maximized the sail area by increasing the foot and leech length to maximum Class dimensions and allowing the clew to be as low as possible. This allows the sail to be sheeted at closer angle for better pointing.
DESIGNED WIND RANGE:
0 - 13 knots true wind speed |
|
MHB-2 Medium/Heavy Headsail $9,321
3DL 850 Carbon/Technora 19600 DPI
For 2012, we have made small changes to the design and geometry of this Medium Heavy jib. We have kept the sail area to a maximum for better performance in the lower range and made the entry rounder and the sail slightly more powerful to compensate for the higher forestay tension used now in the Class.
DESIGNED WIND RANGE:
12 -19 knots true wind speed |
|
MHi-2 Medium/Heavy Headsail $11,023
3Di 780i Carbon/Dyneema 19600 DPI CSD Layout
News 2012 Layout with small changes to design and geometry.
The MHi-2 headsail has the same design characteristics of the MHB-1 and
has been engineered to have a higher modulus. Early trials have shown
that this sail requires less trimming attention in changing conditions
and allows you to keep the weight to windward all the time for better
stability. In the upper range of the MHi-2, you can easily twist the top
batten by easing the sheet and/or the "up & down" control without
losing control of the mid leech. This allows for better acceleration
without losing pointing ability.
DESIGNED WIND RANGE:
12-20 knots true wind speed
|
|
H4B-2 Headsail $6,125
Paneled Construction (per Class Rules) Dimension BX 20
The H4B-2 has been re-designed for 2012 with small changes to design and geometry.
The H4B-2 has an increased overall entry angle and bottom quarter depth to allow a wider steering groove. The final sail area has been reduced slightly to allow for better performance in the upper range of the sail.
DESIGNED WIND RANGE:
19+ knots true wind speed |

CLASS DOWNWIND
For 2012, North Sails has redesigned the entire Soto 40 downwind
inventory to provide more versatile flying shapes for more aggressive
"mode" sailing in each wind range. The class allows only three
Masthead Spinnakers to be measured in any regatta. Minimum weight is 30
grams/m2. After two years of racing in the Soto 40 Class, we have
invested many hours of R&D with our own VWT (Virtual Wind Tunnel).
As a result, we have re-designed all our spinnaker inventory, materials
and construction to better meet the AWA that the boat sails in for each
wind condition.

CODE A1.5-2 $9,137
NorLite 50/60*
SuperLite 50/60
Area: 178.6 Square Meters
APPLICATION:
Optimized for 50-95 degrees AWA the new A1.5-2 has been redesigned to be more powerful and with a new geometry to allow max sail area . By going to maximum luff length allowed by the Class this new A1.5-2 design has 4 square meters more sail area than the previous A1.25-1 and 2,1 square meters more than the A1.5-1. It is easier to sail at lower angles something that becomes tactically very important in this Class and thanks to the new sail geometry , this new A1.5 has a nice and twisty shape to be fast when sailing tighter angles in the light breeze.
SPECIALIZED WIND RANGE:
5-14 knots true wind speed
* - Recommended sail cloth |
|
CODE A2-2 $8,658
NorLite 60/50*
AirX 600/700
Area: 182.3 Square Meters
APPLICATION:
The A2-2 has been re-designed for max area and to be easy to
fly. This new A2-2 is 2 square meters bigger and is more powerful than the 2011 design to allow for sailing lower angles and easy steering in any condition.
SPECIALIZED WIND RANGE:
13-18 knots true wind speed
* - Recommended sail cloth |
|
CODE A4-2 $8,716
NorLite 70/90*
AirX 700/900
Area: 182.3 Square Meters
APPLICATION:
Designed to keep the boat planning all the time, we modified the previous A4 by adding 2 square meter more sail area and making it slightly more powerful to achieve this at lower angles . Due to the Class restrictions for sail replacement we have reinforced this sail very carefully to be very durable and still keep it light to perform well in the lower range.
SPECIALIZED WIND RANGE:
18+ knots true wind speed
