    X-35 LELAGAIN WINS 2010 X-35 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!

The crew onboard Lelagain, an X-35 owned by Italian Alessandro Solerio, dominated the World Championship held August 29 – September 4th at Marina di Scarlino in Maremma, Tuscany. Hosted by the Yacht Club Italiano and the Circolo Nautico Scarlino, the X-35 World’s consisted of ten races and was held in conjunction with the X-Yachts Gold Cup and X-41 European Championship. Thirty-four boats competed for the world title with Lelagain never finishing worse than 11th (their throw-out) to win by an impressive 13 points.

Racing with a complete North Sails Class Sail Development (CSD) sail inventory, including a mainsail and S2 spinnaker that were both a year old, team Lelagain proved to be the fastest boat in the regatta. Luigi Rognoni, a North Sails representative who sails onboard regularly, reported that the week was "sunny with medium Westerly breezes between 10 and 12 knots. There were a lot of strong sailors racing in the regatta and North-powered boats (which comprised about 40% of the fleet) were successful all week," continued Rognoni. "After winning the 2009 World Championship in Kiel, Germany and recently winning the Copa del Rey in Palma, this was another great victory for our team and Mr. Solerio is completely satisfied with our North sails and our very strong crew."

"We were especially fast on the windier days, confirming that the North M-1 CSD medium headsail is the fastest sail on the market," continued Rognoni. "Its material (North 3DL® 860 Carbon/Aramid) proved to be stable and durable and this is an important factor in a class like the X-35 which allows only four new sails each year. We won the Copa del Rey with our 2009 sail inventory and saved our new sails for the Worlds. Adding fresh jibs and a new light spinnaker was the perfect recipe for us to win," he concluded.
