    On this page you will find the specifications for North’s standard Class racing sails for the J/109. Because of the unique racer/cruiser qualities of the J/109, each individual owner will use their boat in a different way. Some owners will only race their J/109, while others will mix weeknight racing with weekend cruising. Still others have bought the J/109 simply to have a high performance cruising boat. To attempt to define one inventory for the boat would simply be a disservice to all of the owners. For more information regarding the full range of North products including Dacron and 3DL™ 860 carbon fiber, please contact North Sails' J/109 Class Sail Development Leader, Jack Orr (jacko@sales.northsails.com).

    Since you only get to use one mainsail it has to be versatile enough to cover the full wind range. Our standard class sail is easy to trim and will hold its fast shape even when the wind increases. The sail is designed to use the full range of the backstay adjustment.

    J/109 CLASS HEADSAIL

    © North SailsNew! AP-2 105% Class Headsail $4,158
    3DL 580 Carbon/Technora® 14700 DPI

    I = 14.17
    J = 4.05

    This sail is optimized for 0-15 knots TWS. It has plenty of power in light air and the shape can be easily adjusted by changing the halyard and backstay tension as the wind increases. This year we are adding a tighter Aramid scrim to strengthen the leech. For 2009, we increased the leech length and increased the foot round to get the sail closer to the deck.

    FEATURES:

    » 4 Vertical RBS Epoxy Battens
    » High Modulus Leech Line
    » Foot line
    » Trim Stripes
    » Telltale Window
    » Sausage Bag

    J/109 HEAVY HEADSAIL

    © North SailsNew! HA-2 105% Heavy Headsail $4,334
    3DL 580 Carbon/Technora® 16800 DPI

    This sail is flatter in shape than the AP jib, but not as flat or smaller like a blade jib. So the boat will stay on its feet in heavier breeze and accelerate instead of heeling and sliding sideways. We kept the sail full size so that the sail will still have some power in windy, but lumpy conditions. This year we are offering lightweight Taffeta on one side as an extra option for durability.

    I = 14.17
    J = 4.05

    FEATURES:

    » 4 Vertical RBS Epoxy Battens
    » High Modulus Leech Line
    » Foot line
    » Trim Stripes
    » Telltale Window
    » Sausage Bag
    » Class Royalty Tag

    Other Available Options:

    » UV Leech & Foot Cover

If you race in under 14 knots of wind most of the time, or you want better reaching performance, this sail is for you.

    J/109 CLASS ASYMMETRICS

    © North Sails2A Class Spinnaker 108m2 - Asymmetric $4,659

    SPL = 5.72
    ISP = 14.84

    This AP sail, made with AIRX 650 is a race proven winner. It's fast at tighter angles in light breeze and loves to sail deep. When the breeze starts to fill in, ease the sheet and turn the boat down. The sail will rock out to windward with the maximum amount of projection, it has a big head and plenty of power. We have done a lot of sail testing, virtual and on the water, for sprit boats. This sail is result of all that hard work.

    4A Class Spinnaker 108m2 - Heavy Asymmetric $4,694

    SPL = 13.33
    ISP = 49.00

    This sail isn't just a heavier version of the 2A. It's shape and geometry are optimized for sailing in breeze over 18 knots TWS. The new 4A is more stable and easier to trim and gybe in heavier breeze. This sail is deisgned to keep the tack down, but still project out to windward, making it easier to keep the sail under the chute and more stable in lumpy conditions. This will be a great addition to any J/109 inventory.

    FEATURES:

    »
    NorLite 70
    » High Modulus Luff Cords
    » Inked on Sail Numbers
    » Turtle Bag
    » Class Royalty Tag
