The North Sails Class Sail Development (CSD) has been heavily involved in the Melges 32 class since its inception in 2005. We are continually racing in Melges 32 events, testing our sails and making improvements that keep North customers in the lead. North Sails does more testing and development in the Melges 32 than all other sailmakers combined.
CSD Melges 32 CSD sails are made with the most advanced materials and manufacturing technology in the industry. We also work together with Southern Spars and Melges Performance Boatworks to create the best sails for your complete Melges 32 package. CSD sails are not only at the top of the class; they are the most popular sails in the class. Melges 32 CSD has also compiled expert tuning tips to optimize sails, boat and crew so that you can get those extra points that make the difference.
2010 NEWS/UPDATES
North-powered Melges 32s have been dominating the 2010 Winter Series.Â
Joe Woods and his team aboard
Red have captured the overall winter series title using a complete North Sails CSD sail inventory. The Gold Cup was won by
Rod Jabin and his team onboard
Ramrod, Key West Race Week was won by
John Kilroy and his
Samba Pa Ti team and Miami Grand Prix was won by
Jean-Francois Cruette and his
Teasing Machine team -- all three boats raced with complete North CSD inventories.
While
Ramrod and
Samba have been playing around with some custom designs, it is clear that the CSD inventory is still the benchmark in the Melges 32 class. The MNC-2 main has been the mold shape of choice. The LC-3, MC-4 and HC-3 is the best all-around jib inventory. For San Francisco, the inventory of choice will most likely be the MC-4, MH-1 and HC-3 jibs to really fine tune for the upper wind ranges. The new 3A kites are proving to be really good in almost all conditions and the 2A kite is a bit more forgiving to drive.
All in all, the top teams are choosing North Sails and North-powered boats continue to dominate the leader board. See results below.
