16 boats race with North sails, 11 complete inventories

MACIF racing in the 2012-13 Vendee Globe
Saturday, November 10th marked the start of the 7th Vendée Globe solo around the world race. The 20 boat fleet departed from Les Sables d’Olonne, France, where Bruno Dubois of North Sails in Europe was on site and reported a spectacular event. Over the past ten years, the race has grown increasingly popular and more and more boats are choosing North Sails as their sailmaker.

For the 2012-13 edition of the race, North sails are on 16 boats, 11 of which have full North inventories. 80% of the fleet has at least one North sail onboard and there are a total of 122 North sails of the 200 (10 per boat) allowed by the race rules.

Salesmen, designers and sailmakers of North Sails in Europe have worked with many International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA) teams in recent years, providing unique experience to offer the Vendée Globe Skippers.

“This is the 4th Vendée Globe that British skipper Mike Golding has selected North sails and Jean Le Cam from France's 3rd time racing with North" said Bruno Dubois. "Jean-Pierre Dick, also from France, races with North sails as well and has been one of the first users of North 3Di™, convincingly winning the double-handed Barcelona World Race with a full set of 3Di sails in 2011," Dubois said.

Bruno thought it important to note that without the use of North 3Di during the last Volvo Ocean Race it would have been hard to sell so many sails.

The European North Sails representatives and loft have done a great job this year using their expertise and resources from North Technology Group to maximize our representation in the Vendée Globe.
