Raven rounds the mark at the 8 Metre Worlds in Helsinki, Finland
At the 2013 8 Metre World Championship, hosted by Helsingfors Segelsällskap on the island of Liuskasaari in Helsinki, 27 boats representing eleven countries enjoyed perfect conditions ranging from 10 -18 knots for the week. North-powered competitors dominated the regatta with convincing wins in all classes over a nine-race series.

North-powered boats showcased a wide range of North products from Dacron in the classics to over twenty 3Di™ sails in the Sira and Modern classes.

North's Hugh Beaton, who is a sales representative in Toronto, reported from onboard Raven, "We had a lot of breeze last year in Cowes and were quite happy with the inventory we had in 15-25 knots. With the typical summer conditions in Helsinki being much lighter, we knew we needed to focus on the 5-15 range and be ready for variable conditions." Raven added three new sails for this regatta and entered the week with the following all-North Sails inventory:

3Di 780 Mainsail (New)
3DL 600 Light Genoa (New)
3Di 760 Medium Genoa (New)
3Di 760 Heavy Genoa
3Di 760 #2 Jib
V-Series Contender SL S1 Spinnaker
V-Series Contender SL S1.5 Spinnaker
V-Series AirX 500/600 S2 Spinnaker
V-Series Contender SK75 S4 Spinnaker

"The mainsail was excellent, offering a new high mode that we had not had before in winds under 12 knots TWS," continued Beaton. "Our new light Genoa is the product of many years of development working with thin films and this was by far our best design yet - light, flexible, sensitive and stable. We could easily carry this to 12 knots TWS before changing to the medium which could take us to 18 knots easily."

North-powered boats performed well in all divisions on the downwind legs, with the versatile S1.5 being the sail of choice in many races.

Congratulations to all North Sails customers who performed so well at this event.
